There is not much snow more left to see in Stockholm today because it can get around 10 degrees nowadays. However, there is quite a big amount of snow left to see today around the Royal Palace, where they held the Royal Palace Sprint so I went there to have a look. It’s a crazy thing to put so much snow just in front of the palace, but well I guess these kind of craziness is what they do here.
In this skiing event, around 6 skiers had to sprint against each other for each round. It’s like an athletic sprint, but then with ski’s on and some up and down tracks. The track itself was not really long, since the route was only from one side of the castle to the other side, probably around 1 km. Here is a nice video from someone skiing at a part of the track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM5kM6U8qm4. Apparently this race is quite popular since there were a lot of skiers participating from different countries such Finland, Norway, Poland and even Japan.
I though first that it didn’t attract many people since it’s held on a work day and I went there around 3.30 pm. Well, I was wrong. There were a lot of people watching this event, from children to elderly people. There were also big screens set up so that people could see it from a distance.
Some people came more prepared than the others such as the guy here below with a bucket or even with a ladder. Now, that is what I call well prepared! As for people who has an office there, well they can just go out and up the roof and enjoy the view from there… (or were they security guys? )
Anyways, it was quite a nice experience to see another kind of sport, something different that I used to see. Oh well, apparently not everybody liked the race. Take for example this dog, waiting while the owner watched the game. Now, who was letting who out again??
